TAFE Education in Australia

TAFEIn Australia, attending a Technical And Further Education (TAFE) institute is a very popular way to gain a qualification. TAFE is the Australian version of community college. TAFE Institutes are found across the country, and offer a range of programs for both Australian and international students.

TAFE delivers a large selection of short and long courses which can be studied full or part-time, or even through online learning, depending on the program. Subject matter taught includes hospitality, construction, engineering, tourism, finance, business, visual and graphic arts, IT, and community services.

For the most part, a graduate receives a qualification ranging from a Certificate I to an Advanced diploma. However, since 2002 some TAFEs have been offering bachelor degrees and postgraduate diplomas in a small number of programs.

Study Get AssistanceThe TAFE system is managed by each State independently, and the programs tend to be heavily funded by the government.  The TAFE organisation works closely with industry and government in order to ensure that course content is relevant, up-to-date, and meets industry standards.

If you would like to study at TAFE, it may be possible to have your prior learning and experience counted towards your qualification. In addition, much of what you learn at TAFE can then be transferred to a university to continue your education to a higher level.

The TAFE you choose to attend will depend on where you settle in Australia and/or the program you wish to pursue.  Below is a list of the TAFE institutions across the country. Some have multiple campuses. Click below to see the institutes per state. Our partner Drake Student Recruitment can help you find the perfect TAFE course for your study goals in Australia.
