While nobody looks forward to seeing tax taken out of their pay check, Australia is the great country it is because of taxes.  Tax collected in the form of income tax and GST pays for almost most everything we value – a strong education, good health care, safe  roads and bridges, reliable public transport, protected national parks and wildlife, and police to secure our protected way of life.  These are many of the things you as a migrant will also be happy to contribute tax towards.
